ઘણી વાર તો આપણને એમ થાય કે આવા ગીતોમાં શાયર શું કામ અર્થહીન સવાલો  ઉઠાવ્યા કરતો હશે?  શાયર ગીત સાંભળનારને કહે છે કે ‘તું તારા મન ને પૂછ…’, જાણે કે મારું મન કોઈ બીજા અપાર્થિવનું  મન હોય! બસ સવાલોની ઝડી. શંકાનું નિવારણ કેમે થાય નહિ.

જે બોલાયું નથી જે સંભળાયું નથી એ કેવી રીતે વર્ણવવું ? કોણ આવી બધી ભાંજગડમાં પડે, ખરું? 

ફેબ્રુઆરી ૨૦૨૧ માં વડોદરા બેઠકમાં મેં આ મધુર સૂફી ગીત વગાડવાની કોશિશ કરી હતી – અલબત્ત આખું નથી વગાડ્યું – કોવિદના  હાઉના હિસાબે સમયબદ્ધ પૂરો કરવાનો હતો મારો કાર્યક્રમ.  તબલા વાદક તુષાર  આ  ગીતમાં ખૂબ ફોર્મમાં હતા.અરે, સામે પહેલી હરોળમાં બિરાજમાન એમ એસ યુનિવર્સીટીના મ્યુઝિક સ્કુલના  ડીનને ભૂલીને મસ્ત  થઈ હું ભાન ભૂલ્યો.

જાવેદ અખ્તર  લિખિત, શફાકત અમાનત અલી ખાને ગાયેલ, મહદ અંશે ખમાજ રાગમાં નિબદ્ધ આ ગીતને શંકર એહસાન લોયની સંગીતકાર ત્રિપુટીએ  બેમિસાલ રીતે સૂરોથી સજાવ્યું છે.

मितवा…  આગળ શક્તિ નો પ્રપાત થાય છે એ જુઓ, જયાં જમણા હાથથી તારને બહુ જુસ્સાથી છેડવાનો લોભ મેં જતો કર્યો છે જેથી સુરનો શ્વાસ સારી રીતે જળવાઈ રહે. અહીં ફક્ત તાર સપ્તકના સા ને લંબાવ્યો છે. એ પછી આવતા मितवा…  ને તો ઓર લંબાવ્યો છે જેમ કે પ ની સા ગ  અને તે પછીના અંતરા માં પ ની સા ગ રે મ સુધી ખેંચ્યું છે. 

हा यह वोही हैं …   માં તાર સપ્તકના ગ ને લંબાવ્યો છે.

આ જ ગીતને મેં જરા વિસ્તારથી ઓક્ટોબર ૨૦૨૧ ની નવસારી બેઠકમાં વગાડ્યું  હતું – માફ કરજો એને હજી YouTube પર નથી મૂકી શક્યો.   

આખરે, ઈમાનદારીથી કહું  કે ગીતમાં ઉઠાવેલ  સવાલના જવાબ કોઈ આત્મજ્ઞાની જ આપી શકે, હું નહિ.

This is one of those songs that lyricist keeps prodding you, asking a gamut of inane questions. Rather he wants you to ask such questions to your own self, like an out-of-body experience, an excellent example of persistent self-doubts.

वो बात क्या है बता

How to identify something that is unspoken? Unheard? One has to be a realised soul to find all the answers, don’t you think?

I played this truncated song in my baithak at Vadodara in February 2021. Truncated, because of the time constraint mandated by the ongoing Covid wave. The tabla accompanist Tushar came into his real self for this song to provide an excellent support. It was such an overwhelming experience for me that I almost forgot the presence of the Dean of Music school, M.S. University – Vadodara, swaying in the front row. 

Written by Javed Akhtar and sung beautifully by Shafaakat Amaanat Ali Khan, the trio of Shankar Ehsan Loy has composed the tune largely in the raga Khamaj. 

Watch out for the sudden burst of energy at the first instance of मितवा… where I have avoided the temptation to keep plucking the strings too vigorously to delineate the continuity of the note ‘Saa’ of the taar saptak.

At the second instance of मितवा…… this effect has to be further lengthened to include PaNiSaGa and in the later stages PaNiSaGaReMa before returning to यह खुदसे तो ना तू छुपा

You can see the same technique at हा यह वोही हैं … to elaborate the note taar spark Ga.

I played the same song again, but more elaborately,  at the Navsari baithak in October, 2021. I must apologise for not being able to upload that song yet.

I am afraid only a self realized soul can honestly answer questions such as
