સંગીતકાર બેલડી શંકર જયકિશન ની લોકપ્રિયતા મહદ અંશે એમની તર્જ ની સરળતા, તેમ જ પિયાનો એકોર્ડિઅન નો (કદાચ પહેલી વખત) નો સમાવેશ ને આભારી હતો. રાગ ભૈરવી પ્રત્યેનો તેમનો ઝુકાવ જગ જાહેર છે. જે રીતે મુકેશ જી એ આ પ્રકાર ના ગીતો ગાયાં છે એ સરળ શૈલી લગભગ કોઈ પણ ગાઈ શકે એવી છે. ખાસ કરીને આ ગીતનો માહોલ જુવાનિયા છોકરાઓને બહુ ગમતો, છોકરીઓને ગમતો કે નહિ એ તો મારા સુજ્ઞ મહિલા વાચકો જ કહી શકે.
પુણે બેઠક માં વગાડેલ આ ગીત માં કેટલીક મહિલાઓના અવાજમાં ‘હોગા હોગા ‘ એમ સંભળાય છે ખરું.
कितनी सदीया बीत गयी है – આ ગીત ને અર્ધી सदी ઉપર થઇ ગયી પણ અપીલ એટલી જ છે.

The music composer duo Shankar Jaikishan largely gained fame because of their simple tunes, simple lyrics to play with and the use of (probably for the first time) Piano Accordion in the composition. The songs they composed, especially those sung by Mukesh were easy to sing by the masses. Their obsession with the raga bhairavi was well known. This song from the film Sangam caught the fancy of the young boys, giving them the freedom of expression to tease the girl they were infatuated with. Did the girls like it? Some of my followers of the female gender must answer this question.
At the Pune baithak where I played this song there were enough female voices to respond to the question, ‘sangam hoga ki nahin’. You can hear some voices responding to my prompts.
