Bahuroopi, the master disguiser, delves deep into the hidden crevices of human relationships. The life of human beings revolves around a myriad of emotions, ever-changing attitudinal responses to others, at times antagonising, subverting, and cajoling. The protagonist, Lali, was born in a quintessential South Gujarat village in pre-independence India. She stoically goes through her life, mending the crevices with love and devotion. She shares a unique relationship with maverick Gopal and Mohanio, who eventually merge their identities with her through their afterlives. The story touches on the societal pressures and shenanigans that shape everyone’s lives in the village. Jamna, the traditional widow, unmindful of the subservient role delegated to a widow, unshackles her life in her unique way.
